The Outdoor Inclusion Coalition (OIC) is a Pittsburgh, PA based non-profit that utilizes outdoor places, spaces, and careers to empower a spirit of discovery for all. OIC serves as an equality ambassador, mentor provider, and community unifier through recreational initiatives, adventure challenges, and learning opportunities.
The Brand Concept
OIC partnered with Pioneer to transform their legacy brand into a more expansive identity—one that would resonate both within and beyond Pittsburgh's borders. The challenge was to craft a visual language that would authentically speak to seasoned outdoor industry professionals while remaining approachable and inspiring to newcomers discovering their passion for the outdoors.
Visual Language
The visual identity weaves together established outdoor design vernacular with powerful typographic choices that honor the civil rights movement. By pairing VTC Bayard and VTC Martin from Vocal Type—fonts inspired by 1960s protest signage—the system carries forward a legacy of breaking barriers. This intentional fusion creates a bold yet welcoming aesthetic that speaks to OIC's mission: making outdoor adventures accessible to all, regardless of their starting point or previous exposure to wilderness experiences.
